About Our Therapeutic Shoe Program

Diabetes Store, Inc. (DSI) Therapeutic Shoe Program is a quality, cost-effective diabetic foot care program focused on promoting and maintaining active, healthy lifestyles while reducing lower extremity complications of diabetes.

Our Therapeutic Shoe Program is an important component of the overall DSI Diabetes Management Program that focuses on providing tools and services to support and improve self-management of those diagnosed with diabetes.

This unique program offers diabetic foot assessments and fittings, for heat molded inserts or custom inserts and therapeutic shoes, provided by our nationwide network of Pedorthists/Qualified Fitters, in the convenience of provider clinics, health systems, or in the place of residence including senior communities and private homes.

How Our Therapeutic Shoe Program Works

During an onsite visit a Pedorthist/Qualified Fitter from our national network will perform assessments to identify signs of heat, redness, discoloration, swelling and reduced sensation which may result in ulcerations and further complications.

Assessment includes:

  • Visual inspection of both feet
  • Temperature readings
  • Monofilament test
  • Measurement/3D scan or molding for custom shoe inserts and therapeutic shoes
  • Communication of adverse findings to appropriate medical personnel

DSI’s team of expert Therapeutic Shoe Customer Service Representatives:

  • Perform insurance eligibility verifications
  • Obtain the signed physician orders
  • Manage the entire initial and reorder process through the point of delivery and acceptance of the product.
  • Notify you when it is time to reorder

Pedorthist/Shoe Fitter FAQs

The DSI National Therapeutic Shoe Program is a unique program offered to DSI affiliated health plans, health systems, medical providers, and pharmacies throughout the US. Through this Program DSI provides therapeutic shoe-related services in provider clinics/offices or the resident’s home, including senior facilities and private homes.

In addition to the fitter-specific services, DSI performs insurance eligibility verification, obtains the signed physician orders, and manages the entire initial and reorder process through the point of delivery and acceptance of the product, as well as notification when the customer is eligible for a reorder.

Traditionally, therapeutic shoes have been provided through independent fitters and retail specialty/prosthetic shoe shops. In recognizing the value of placing therapeutic shoes on individuals with diabetes, to reduce the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), DSI has established a formalized, provider network of Pedorthists/Qualified Fitters built to serve diabetic individuals associated with DSI’s partners such as payors, health systems, providers, pharmacies, and senior facilities

DSI has developed a presence throughout the US and is expanding this national network to include additional Pedorthist/Qualified Fitters in numerous markets throughout the US.

This expansion is providing the opportunity for additional Qualified Fitters to work with DSI and serve pre-qualified customers provided by DSI on a regular basis.

All individuals applying to work with DSI, must meet DSI employment requirements and must agree to follow all guidelines associated with DSI contracted relationships. The individual must be licensed as a Pedorothist or be certified as a Qualified Fitter and maintain such credentials throughout their relationship with DSI.

As a Qualified Fitter with DSI you will be assigned pre-qualified customers and be responsible for expeditiously scheduling appointments to serve these individuals in the indicated location. While on-site the Qualified Fitter will perform a complete foot assessment, as defined by DSI during the DSI orientation, scan/mold the feet for the creation of the shoe inserts and measure the feet to fit the therapeutic shoes. All Qualified Fitters are equipped with the DSI guidelines for the assessment, and catalogs for therapeutic shoe selection by the customer. Following the submission of the order to DSI the inserts will be fabricated and the inserts and shoes will be sent to the Qualified Fitter. Once the products are received the Qualified Fitter will schedule a second appointment with the customer to deliver the products and ensure a proper fit before the customer accepts the order.

Yes. Qualified Fitters shall be employed through an employee-commission only status which shall be clearly outlined in the DSI Offer of Employment Letter. Qualified Fitters currently contracted with DSI will be transferred to a commission employee status through a simple paper transaction process.
